Uhhh, What Was I Saying Again??

Well, if my local morning disc jockey is to be believed, and that is still debatable, today marks the midway point of 2007. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this. Have I wasted half a year or do I have another half of the year to achieve perfection? I just had my fist Pepsi in longer than I can remember (I’ll choose not to name the party responsible for my going over to the dark side) and may need to go to confession because of that later today, so I’m really going to have to be on my best behavior for the remainder of the year. Now that is pressure!

There is so much I wanted to get done this year. Yes, most of the list revolved around pranks and office tomfoolery (ooh, I just used a 50 cent word), but I had actual noble goals too. I wanted to volunteer for a charity, donate a building to my local library, clean up a section of highway and save a couple of animals, to say the least. OK, yes, I lied. None of that was on my list. My major goal was figuring out how to be able to lay in the hammock Lucy and Ethel got me last year without falling out. Unexpected falls from a hammock do not exactly contribute to relaxation. Plus, I think my dog laughs at me every time it happens and that does nothing but help me lose credibility come obedience training time. Not my training! Her’s.

I have debated what to devote the rest of the year to. I haven’t come up with anything yet. I was tempted to spray paint my cubicle walls a nice ocean blue and hang up a nice neon sign, but was advised it was against several of our employer’s safety (and even conduct) codes. However, there is no specific wording on bringing a tent into the office, so maybe I’ll work out of a tent the rest of the summer, and possibly 2007. It would make me happier and a happier worker is a more productive worker, unless I get too happy, at which point I stop working all together. I would also like to work on some new songs for Lucy and Ethel to dance to. I’ve been flirting with the idea of getting them addicted to ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen,’ but then if that song starts to annoy me, there will be nothing I can do about it. I know I’m setting some pretty lofty goals here, but I have half a year to accomplish them. Oh yeah, I forgot to reiterate how much I still want to bring a musical version of Welcome Back Kotter to Broadway. If I’m successful with that, I’ll devote at least half of 2008 to creating a musical version of ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’ My major concern there is how to make the entire production appear black and white only. How does Andy Dick playing Barney Fife sound? Granted, I’m still early in the casting phase, but one has to think ahead…

Oh man, I almost forgot the major reason for today’s post! No, it’s not that The King – Richard Petty celebrates his 70th birthday today. Although, don’t under estimate how important that is to me. I still don’t think I wash the hand that he shook 7 years ago without crying. At any rate, what I almost forgot to tell you was that today is ‘I Forgot Day.’ Or at least I think it was today. I forget…or is it forgot?

I should write a personal letter of thanks to the person that created this holiday and had the foresight to make sure it fell on a Monday. After all, I forgot a lot of things today. I forgot to get to work on time, I forgot to bring my tie (although I forgot on purpose), I apparently forgot to empty my coffee cup last Friday before I left for the weekend (although it looks like I grew a new form of life in it) and I forgot to change my cell phone ring tone from ‘Take This Job and Shove It.’ Go figure this is the one day where the thing has already rang 13 times! I may try to use this whole ‘I Forgot’ thing as much as possible today. I forgot to print my morning report, I forgot to eat while at lunch; thus necessitating a second lunch and I forgot to refill my office PEZ Dispenser (Homer Simpson, if you’re wondering); thus necessitating a trip to the store for a refill.

Yes, I like this forgetting thing. Perhaps I can forget to celebrate it today so I can celebrate it again tomorrow. I also forgot the name of the lady that just called me from another office about something I have since forgotten and disconnected with me by calling me babe. However, I didn’t forget to tell the entire office about it. I also didn’t forget my office ‘project’ for the day. Since my cell phone keeps going off, I’m taking that inspiration and am going to sing ‘Take This Job And Shove It’ to myself all day. My hope is that I’ll get everyone in the office singing it even though they don’t want to. If successful, the next step is getting my coworkers to buy me lunch without realizing it. Hopefully they’ll forget they did.

Well, I need to go write a post for today. I had a great idea, but I seem to have forgotten what it was going to be…

Pepsi...What's next? Only buying DuPont products and rooting for the Rainbow Worrier....AAAH.

Texas: Trust me, that will never, ever happen! I am impressed with the #24 reference though...even though I shouldn't be because you dared to mention Gordon (it hurts to just spell it) on my blog!

It's half a year exactly? Hmm. I heard a rumor about this but tried not to believe it. I've done nothing on my to-do list except take a lot of pictures with stuffed wildlife. (But who doesn't have that on their list?). Thanks for the confirmation on this, I will defintely get on doing something better than trying to figure out how to pose with a stuffed deer with still maintaining my girlish charm. Wish me luck.

We aren't pez people over here, though I have enjoyed it when I've had it. "take this job and Shove" if only we could actually use those works out loud...

Michael C said...

Brandy: You will have to teach me the way of the taxidermy posing. Sounds like fun. Unless the person trying it is to 'stiff' to enjoy it!!

Shadow: Just sing the words and maybe no one will notice ;-)

I think I'm getting old because I keep forgetting names and stuff. Maybe I should just blame it on the rain... or the holiday.

Michael C said...

Erica: Use the holiday, we'll worry about another excuse tomorrow.

I celebrate "I Forgot Day" every single day of my life....so sad...or is it??
Gets in the way of work sometimes.....they don't like me using that one a lot!!!
Peace

Odat: So, they are discriminating against you celebrating 'I Forgot Day?' Sounds like we need a lawyer ;-)

This has got to be one of my favorites! I need to start checking your blog in the morning to find out about these things before they happen. Next year I'm all about forgetting!

This holiday was invented for my husband.

He forgets to remind himself of things and has to set reminders for those ones he forgot. Yes, I know.

Michael C said...

Frigga: I'll make it my responsibility to notify everyone a little earlier ;-)

AndreAnna: Actually, that's not a bad system. Although I forgot how it works, please explaing it to me again.

I forget lots of things too. Every day. I can relate.
But I didn't forget that it should be "has already rung" not "rang."

I really hope you don't mind me correcting you. It just jumped out at me.

Just telling it like it is said...

I did have something really great to say I swear but I forgot...
I love this holiday perhaps I can use this on a regular basis..maybe most people do not know of this holiday and then and then I can insist that it is a holiday to forget...ahhh yeah...and ummm thanks for reminding me that half the year is gone already...on the up side...I will still remain 25 next year...
and I might just spank your hand for the pepsi...or not I might forget...

Michael C said...

Patti: SAdly, I don't even remember writing 'rang.' Seriously, I forgot. I'm not making that up... ;-)

Just Telling: The Pepsi was a big thing. Hopefully I'll forget about it as the day goes on. You're 25? You don't look at day over 22!!!

Just telling it like it is said...

Oh micheal: okay I wont spank your hand for the pepsi...even though my nursing instinct wants to...22...I think I am stretching it with the 25 gig being 34 and all...don't repeat that age...I am trying to be undercover brother...

Michael C said...

Just Telling: Repeat what age? I'm 33 and I look like a senior citizen compared to you (how's that???)

well...that makes me feel somewhat special...here is some info..and what I thinky... You do have so much to live for and your a bright spot in my day...
Medications: Dofetilide

Overview (for detailed discussion see below)

Description
Dofetilide is used to treat atrial fibrillation and flutter.

How it Works
Dofetilide regulates the flow of potassium into the heart cells. Since the flow of this ion is crucial to the generation and transmission of electrical activity in the heart, regulation of this flow can prevent irregular heartbeats.

Precautions

Notify your doctor about any medicines you are taking that might potentially prolong the QT interval on the electrocardiogram. This includes both prescribed medicines and over-the-counter medicines (see www.qtdrugs.org).
Some diuretics, or water pills, cause depletion of body potassium and magnesium, which may be potentially dangerous in combination with dofetilide. If you are prescribed such an agent while taking this drug, you should discuss this with your doctor.
Possible Side Effects

Fast or slow heart arrhythmias including torsades de pointes
Major Drug Interactions

Many drugs can interact with dofetilide causing excessive prolongation of the QT interval. It is essential, therefore, that any medicines that you are taking are reviewed by your physician prior to administration of dofetilide. (see www.qtdrugs.org)
Other important drug interactions are with cimetidine (Tagamet®), verapamil, ketoconazole, and trimethoprim
Drug Names
Tikosyn®

Detailed discussion of dofetilide:

Dofetilide is a class III antiarrhythmic drug, which produces its antiarrhythmic actions by blocking a particular potassium current in the heart. The effect of this potassium current blockade is to make the heart less susceptible to arrhythmias.

Dofetilide is the most recently approved antiarrhythmic in the United States. Its effectiveness was shown in a number of large clinical trials, such as the EMERALD and the SAFIRE trials. These trials showed that patients given dofetilide were more likely to convert from atrial fibrillation or flutter to normal sinus rhythm than patients given dummy pills. Patients on dofetilide were also more likely to stay in normal rhythm after conversion to normal heart rhythm. Dofetilide was also evaluated in two large mortality trials, known as the DIAMOND trials. These trials evaluated patients were in the hospital with either congestive heart failure or after a recent heart attack. The trials showed that, on balance, dofetilide did not increase mortality in either of these two patient groups, and during follow-up the patients were less likely to be in atrial fibrillation, and also less likely to be readmitted to hospital with congestive heart failure.

Dofetilide is given twice a day. It is predominantly excreted from the body by the kidneys, therefore kidney function is always measured both before initiating the drug and during follow-up of patients who are taking it. To a small extent, dofetilide is broken down in the liver, although this mechanism of excretion is thought to be less important than excretion through the kidneys. The doses available of dofetilide are 125, 250, and 500 mcg twice a day.

The principle risk associated with dofetilide use is that it may produce a new ventricular arrhythmia, called torsades de pointes, in approximately 2% of patients taking the drug. This arrhythmia is a life-threatening one and requires immediate treatment with withdrawal of the drug, administration of magnesium or other antiarrhythmic agents, and in some cases electrical shock treatment to restore the heart to normal rhythm. This risk appears maximal in the first few days of drug treatment, and accordingly the drug must be initiated in a carefully monitored setting in-hospital for the first three days or so. The risk of this particular side effect increases in patients depending on the extent of heart disease, whether there are deficiencies of potassium in the body, is more common in women than in men, and also appears to be more common in the elderly. Certain other medicines given in combination with dofetilide may increase the blood levels of dofetilide and increase the risk of torsades also. These medicines include verapamil, cimetidine (Tagamet®), trimethoprim, ketoconazole, prochlorperazine, and megestrol. If you are prescribed one of these medicines, or any other drug known to prolong the QT interval on the electrocardiogram, you should consult your physician about this urgently. A list of drugs that may prolong the QT interval is available on the web (see www.qtdrugs.org).

Apart from the risk of torsades de pointes from dofetilide, the drug is in other regards very well tolerated in most patients. A full monograph concerning this drug has been posted on the web (www.tikosyn.com)
I hope that was informationsal...keep me updated!@!

What just happened immediately above?

Okay, back to my comment - Wish I'd nknown about the I forgot holiday. I hope to celebrate it next year, but likely I'll forget.

And,t eh good thing about the year's mid-point is that the very next day you can call it a loss and start working on your plans for next year.

Michael C said...

Just Telling: Wow! Thanks. I guess that's really something to look forward to now, isn't it. ;-)

I appreciate all the info! I really do!!

Michael C said...

CS: I like the idea of starting over tomorrow. Sorry I forgot to let everyone know about the I Forgot Day a little earlier. If I remember, rest assured I will next year!

Up above was some badly needed medical advice ;-)

Just telling it like it is said...

More infp
Well,
A couple of things to think about while drinking grapefruit juice it may be best to drink other fruit juices while taking dofetilide.
Side effects to think about...
headache
chest pain
dizziness
respiratory infection
flu-like symptoms
stomach pain
back pain
diarrhea
difficulty sleeping

With A-fib... your atrial part is not working...I think if the medicine makes you feel better it is worth the try...every medicine has side effects even if it is tylenol...What I know...it seems like your heart problem is congenital...which makes you a canidate since you can't handle cardio conversion... the thing that we worry about with a-fib is that the top part stops working all together. stressing your heart to only using the AV node...it can only do this for so long before you have a Micardial infarctions ( heart attact) ..I know that will not happen to you because your spirit is so amazing...because the heart is connected to your spirit...and I don't care what Dr.s report (people do not believe it when I say this but it is also true ...your will to live and be there for you children might be more than your Dr. could ever explain)...Drs. are not GOd...I would try the drug and see how you feel...for anything that will cause you less stress will be worth millions...anyway think of all the people you will save by your intervative expriences...It takes a great man to make a big differnce.
Please keep me in touch...and let me know how you feel...if it does not work for you just know that God has a bigger plan than for you that you could even begin to imagine...We must not question what is right, only question what is wrong...
your my hero in a way to be dealing with things that are so important and life threatening are more than anyone of us is prepaired to deal with...most people would'nt understand the greatness of your galop heart..but I know that mirical all to close for comfort...
Let me know suga...I am infaintlately interested in you well being....

Just telling it like it is said...

Yes...something I will be looking forward to your recovery...and feeling good for once...with out the pepsi...take care sweethear we are all supporting you!!!

Michael C said...

Just Telling: Take away the Big D - the leakage you mentioned on your blog ;-) and I basically have all of those now. That shouldn't be too bad ;-)
Seriously, I'll let you know since I have just a couple more follow ups. I really appreciate it! Thanks so much!!

Pepsi, ABBA and a hammock...sounds like a bit of tomfoolery! I haven't heard the word tomfoolery in ages! I love it!

I had a comment and I forgot it because I was so entertained by all the other comments. I'm not even trying to be funny - I really forgot what I was going to say.

Ralph said...

'Tomfoolery' is a 50-cent word when 50 cents was worth something! ABBA is okay, but the best songs we used for musical chairs and such when the kids were little: Bob Crosby's rollicking swing number 'Well Git It' or David Bowie's 'Modern Love'. The dog is laughing at you for your rolling out of his hammock. Celebrate King Richard...nobody today will ever touch 200, EVER!
