Happy Labor Day And Good Bye Summer

Wow, it seems like just yesterday (well, it was Friday actually) that I was lamenting the start of the Labor Day Weekend, which signifies the end of summer. Now the holiday weekend is almost over and there are just a few un-official hours left in summer 2007. Tomorrow kids will go back to school and all of us adults will go back to work as if nothing happened. The only way you'd know it had been a holiday is the fact that everyone's level of grumpiness will be slightly more elevated than usual. At least the week will be one day shorter.

It’s now time to put away the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett. Time to stow away that old hammock, provided you had the time to get it out at all this year (or were able to understand the directions for hanging the darn thing) and you should probably go ahead and deflate the alligator raft in the pool. We can however look forward to cooler weather (in some parts of the country), the leaves changing color (again, in some parts of the country because here in So Cal the seasons are marked by only two leaf colors -- green and dead), the sun setting sooner, the start of a new TV season (Yes! New episodes of The Office and 30 Rock) and the coming of the stretch run for both baseball and NASCAR.

Believe it or not, I have already seen both pumpkin and pecan pie in the store. The next thing you know, Target will be getting rid of their back-to-school items and replacing them with Halloween decor and costumes. I'm sure Starbucks will be featuring their Pumpkin Latte soon. Although if you allow places like Wal-Mart and Target to mark the seasons, you'd always been two months ahead of the calendar. I just know my crazy neighbor down the street will be stringing up Christmas lights within the next few weeks. Yep, summer 2007 ain't long for the world my friends. The only good thing about this is that I only have to wait one more month for eggnog to start showing up on store shelves. Don't believe me? Well, let's put it this way, I have not lost a bet yet in 7 years that I would be drinking eggnog before Halloween. I crave the stuff and actually find myself in withdrawals by March of each year. But that's not what this post is about...

To celebrate summer’s end, I was planning on grilling up some steak and corn tonight but it’s at least 106 degrees out and I’m afraid the copious amounts of sweat pouring off my head might extinguish the hot coals. Not to mention sweat may not be the best marinade, but that's all really too disgusting to ponder...sorry. I don’t think we had a Labor Day parade in town today, which is a good thing because no one likes getting stuck in hot asphalt. All in all I allowed summer to pass pretty quietly this year, with the exception of my air conditioning unit which has been the only thing running non-stop all weekend. Getting that bill should a lot of fun and a great way to start the fall season.

So I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and a nice summer. I hope you got to do everything you planned and travel to wherever you wanted. We’ll all wake up tomorrow and just like that summer will be over. Don’t worry though; Memorial Day will be here before you know it. OK, you're right, I made that up just to make you feel better...

*****Q & A Tuesday is tomorrow and I can't provide the A's if I don't have any Q's. So, if there is anything you want to ask me, anything I can help you with, or if you seek solutions to any of life's problems and mysteries, feel free to ask away!! Seriously, it's the Monday of a 3-day weekend. What else do you have to do today, right??*****

I'm first!

Sorry, I had to do that. I always see everyone being first and wondered how it felt. And it felt good. Like Christmas Day really.

Now. On to your post.

I actually was at Wal-Mart the other day (because I had a suicide wish), and noticed Halloween stuff coming out. I'm not kidding. I might have got irrationally angry in the store. A store I have no credibility at anymore because I once said 'shit' and a cashier informed it was a family store and asked me if I wanted to leave. But that's another story.

Oh, and you are talking about it being hot there- today it's so cold I'm wearing TWO pairs of socks. So live it up MC, winter is coming.

As for your questions for tomorrow here they go:
1. What movie do you wish you had the starring role in?
2. Favourite mode of transportation?
3. What is to become of Karen this year on the Office?

Bran: Welcome back! Now I wish I had something to award you with for being first (and second). Out here the cashiers at Wal-Mart use worse language than the customers...

Is it really cold there? What the heck is that like? I just got back from walking 4 miles and I think I lost half of my body weight.

I like your questions. Especially number 3! ;-)

I was at a store Friday (Aug. 31) and in addition to all the Halloween and Harvest stuff that was out they had already started the display of lighted snowmen and Christmas trees...

Yikes!

I've already seen Halloween stuff out on shelves. HALLOWEEN!!! That's like 2 months away! I hope you had a great weekend drinking root beer and doing fun stuff with Lucy and Ethel. I held true to my promise of just reading and not doing much else.

And I'm so watching The Office this season. That's what she said (and I can't wait to use this line at work!).

Yes, yes. Halloween stuff is out. And I went online to order the baby's Halloween costume and they were sold out. Granted, it's Tom Arma, and I apparently should have ordered in June, but I mean, HELLO?!?!?

And yay for thew TV shows coming back on. I mean, I love 4400 and Survivorman but I am bored, bored, bored of summer TV. Although it does leave us more time to play Galaga on XBOX 360 or Wii bowl!

Patti: I saw the Christmas trees stocked way up high in a shelf in Wal-Mart's garden center, but at least they weren't on the shelves.

Airam: I can't believe that everyone everywhere is ahead of California! I have not seen this stuff on the shelves yet. It's settled, I'm calling in sick tomorrow and driving around trying to find Halloween stuff on store shelves!!!!!

Yay for you becoming on Office convert. It rocks!! (That's what she said). And bonus points for you using that phrase when you work at a school!!!

AA: I honestly have not seen Halloween stuff out here. And I thought So Cal was a leader for that type of thing. The Biggest Loser starts tomorrow...it's a favorite of mine!

Holiday weekends have no effect on my grumpiness level. Snow in September? Grumpiness increases. Labor day? not even a ripple.

Here is a burning and urgent question for you: do you pick your nose?

I thought #3 might be your favourite. Season 3 is on DVD tomorrow I think. Ahhh, I can't wait to get it just for the beach episode. As for it being cold, it actually is cold. No parka yet, but I'm already buying socks in bulk since I seem to lose them once winter hits.

Claudia: Work is about the only thing that kicks my grumpiness up. Well that and meals without cheese.

Silver: Yeah, no more rude kids at McDonalds during the lunch hour!

Odat: This was not one of my favorite summers. I'm ok with it passing on ;-)

Just Telling: Thanks for helping me out with the beers I can't drink ;-)

Awesome Mom: I shall answer it honestly.

Bran: You thought right. I forgot that Season 3 comes out tomorrow. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!! I just BBQ'd when the outside temp was 106. Not smart, not smart at all...

Just telling it like it is said...

I know that you can't drink but you could live vicariously though my drunking, naked stories...

Just Telling: Perhaps I should live vicariously through you. It sounds like a lot of fun! Except I'd rather look at the short skirts than wear them.

If Summer is over, why was it so dang hot before the sun came up this morning? I think the calendar's have been lying to us, Summer isn't really over until the end of October!
