Me And Mrs. Jones (Otherwise known as ‘and now for something completely different’)

You’ve heard the Me And Mrs. Jones song, right? Well, so did we on the way back to the office after lunch. It’s been stuck in my head since then. I spent the entire afternoon at work singing it belting it out (with limited choreography, of course). I was accused by my coworkers of being tone deaf, not having enough soul and of being the Wayne Newton of great 70s soul music. OK, I am paraphrasing that last one there. It was actually just a very short 4-letter verb (at least when used in the way it was) followed by the word ‘you!’

But, by the end of the work day I had everyone else singing it, even after they all protested how much they were getting sick of it. It reminds me of that time in the 6th grade when I got everyone at my table singing ‘Yellow Submarine’ by the end of the day or when I got everyone in the row behind me to look up at the ceiling after I kept looking at it while I was a Sophomore in High School. Of course my English teacher gave me detention after that stunt, but unlike many things in life, it was really, really worth it. This stuff is much easier to do then you’d think. Try it. Sing or hum something like Danke Schoen all day and see what happens.

Perhaps everyone in the office will finally see my brilliance and stop underestimating me now. Oh wait; I WANT them to underestimate me. That works to MY advantage, right?

Looks like I prematurely tipped by hand. No wonder why I suck at poker.

Crap.

Well, back to the drawing board.

And I suck at poker because anytime I get anything remotely good in my hand I clap my hands in excitement.

Because apparently when I play poker, I turn into an 8 year old.

Have a good weekend!!

Bran: I know what you mean. When I get a good hand I tend to get a really goofy smile. Then everyone folds. I don't play much poker anymore...

The last song that got stuck in my head was 'Crocodile Rock.' I dread it happening again because it's very embarrassing when you break out into the Nanananana bit in the queue at the Post Office. Have a great weekend!

When you were looking up at the ceiling were you throwing pencils into the ceiling tiles like the guy in the commercial? I picture you doing that
;-)

"Hey Jude" is another song that gets stuck in your head

OH to be a fly on the cubical wall of your office.....That is a tough song to sing, let alone outloud in the office.

Being underestimated is underrated. Everything I did in high school was a disappointment to my parents because they overestimated my abilities.

that song haunts me (my last name is jones). i suck at poker too for basically the same reason. ;)

You know those "musical" type movies where people just all at once start belting out a song and their dance moves are completely choreographed what with the dancing on desks and the ringing of the phones all at once and the twirling down the office aisles?

I can totally picture that happening where you work.

Selma: That is an addictive one! But fun for group singing.

Patti: I used to rig the bat symbol onto the flashlights we used when working in the dark lab in biology ;-)

Chefmom: Well, no one said I sang it well. ;-)

Valerie: I had the same problem.

Sizzle: This is a good reason why I can never spend time with people Jones ;-)

Airam: We'll just say it happens in my cubicle, but not so much throughout the entire office...

Ah crap; now I have "Yellow Submarine" stuck in my head.

At my office, I sit in a quad cubicle by my lonesome... well, until my last day when the secretary moved next to me. Now I have to hold back on my singing/talking to myself now that I am no longer alone...

Well; ficus was there.

To that I say - keep belting Michael!!! I'd sure welcome that humorous outburst to break up the 9-5 dread lock.

Am I dating myself if say I remember 'Mrs. Jones' when it was top 40?

Lucy and Ethel could modify the lyrics as follows:
"Me and Michael, Michael C..."

Is Barbie here by any chance? I need to know what to wear.

Hey you - thanks for stopping by my bloggaroni. Your post here reminded me of a story that you'll enjoy...

Years ago I went to Dieppe France with my husband and another couple, all English people. And one of the guys told us we were going to play the game "fly." This is where we all make surreptitious glances at the waiter's fly while he's standing at our table taking our order. It was pretty mean...and funny. That waiter tried desperately not to look down, but finally he succumbed. Then we all got to look all innocent-like.

What??
